Summary
:
The letter is a very practical review of the Christian faith in
the life of a believer. Addressing the everyday problems of temptation,
listening, favouritism, faith, taming the tongue, submission,
patience and sickness, James gives clear and encouraging advice
on how to advance in godliness. It is not directed at any particular
church, but rather to Jewish believers in general.
Key
verses :
"Do
not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what
it says" (1:22).
"Faith
by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (2:17).
