Summary
Obadiah’s name means "servant of Yahweh" ("Yahweh"
is the Hebrew name of God). Obadiah was a prophet who pronounced
judgement upon the nation of Edom for its antagonism against
Israel. Edom is the nation that descended from Esau, the twin
brother of Jacob, who had his name changed to Israel. Edom
was to be punished for the violence against Israel they committed
when invading the land.
